Kerala high court became the first paperless court in India. Supreme Court justice D.Y. Chandrachud inaugurated the smart courtrooms on1st January 2022.

Swapnil Tripathi v. Supreme Court of India (2018)

e-Courts Portal: Online mechanisms (websites) are available for litigants, advocates, government agencies, and the police to track case status, view cause lists, judgments and daily orders. Data is available on the portal for disposed of and pending civil and criminal cases across the country. The portal also contains judgments and orders of the district judiciary.

NJDG (National Judicial Data Grid)

It is a portal that provides information regarding the pending and disposed of cases in the various districts and high courts in India. It is the online portal that is used by this address njdg.ecourts.gov. The World Bank acquiesces to the NJDG innovation. It serves as a national judicial data warehouse that may be used to shape legislative policy. It helps in the view of pending cases before the court by the citizens.

E SCR supreme court of India reportable judgments

This effort aims to make the Supreme Court rulings available in digital form. With no subscription fees or other costs to the user, E-SCR will make it easier to access Supreme Court rulings. The Supreme Court website, the Supreme Court mobile application, and the judgements portal of the e-court project all have access links or tabs for eSCR.

SUVAS (Supreme Court Vidhik Anuvaad Software)

A machine-assisted translation tool with artificial intelligence training is called SUVAS. This tool was created specifically for the judicial domain and can now translate orders, judgements, and other legal documents written in English into nine vernacular languages. This marks the beginning of artificial intelligence's entry into the judicial system.

SUPACE (Supreme Court Portal for Assistance in Court’s Efficiency)

In order to handle the volume of data received regarding the numerous cases, the Supreme Court aims to apply machine learning through this platform. It is a hybrid system that perfectly combines human intelligence with machine learning, which when combined with human intelligence, works marvels. The AI-controlled tool's sole purpose is to process information and provide judges with it for consideration.

NSTEP (national service and tracking of electronic processes)

It has been launched for technology-enabled process serving and issuing of summons. A GPS-enabled device is given to the Bailiff for the service of summons leading to greater transparency and speedy delivery of processes. It has been implemented in 28 states/UTs.

Why live streaming is beneficial to the judicial system?

• Live-streaming of courtroom proceedings will reduce the public’s reliance on second-hand narratives to obtain information about important judgments of the Court and the course of judicial hearings.
• Viewing court proceedings will also serve an educational purpose. Law students will be able to observe and learn from the interactions between the Bar and the Bench. The archives will constitute a rich source for aspiring advocates and academicians to study legal advocacy procedures, interpretation of the law, and oratory skills, among other things.
• Live-streaming will remove physical barriers to viewing court proceedings by enabling the public to view proceedings from outside courtroom premises.
• Live-streaming of court proceedings will enable members of the public to know of the causes of adjournments and the reasons why hearings are delayed.
