The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has released the official notification for the recruitment of Assistant Prosecution Officers (APO) 2025. Applications can be submitted online only through the official BPSC website.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications for Education:

1- A law degree (LLB) from an accredited university is required

Age Limit (as of the date of notification):

1- Male UR: 21–37 years

2- OBC, EWS, and UR (female): up to 40 years

3- Male and female SC/ST: up to 42 years old (relaxations in accordance with Bihar government regulations)

Application Cost

1- Male General, OBC, and EWS: ₹600

2- Bihar Domicile SC/ST: ₹150

3- Women who reside within Bihar: ₹150

4- PwBD: 150

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for an Assistant Prosecution Officer (APO) is ₹53,100 to ₹1,67,800 at Pay Level 9

Additional benefits in accordance with Bihar government regulations.

The Competitive examination for recruitment in the Bihar APO shall consist of:-

(1) Preliminary Examination (Objective Type),

(2) Written Main Examination (Subjective Type),

(3) Interview.

SYLLABUS/SCHEME

Bihar APO Prelims Exam Pattern

The Bihar APO Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers.

• The first paper is General Studies, which will have 100 questions carrying 100 marks and will be of 2 hours duration.

• The second paper is Law, which will also contain 100 questions worth 100 marks, with a time limit of 2 hours.

Thus, the prelims exam will have a total of 200 questions for 200 marks, and the overall duration of the exam will be 4 hours.

• This exam will be objective in nature.

• This exam will consist two papers i.e. Paper 1 & 2.

• The exam will be held through offline mode.

• Duration of the exam will be of 2 hours for each paper.

• Each correct question will fetch one mark.

• A negative marking of ¼ will also be there.

Bihar APO Mains Exam

The Bihar APO Mains Exam has a total of seven papers, and all of them are descriptive. The papers include

• General Studies, Hindi, and English, each carrying 100 marks.

• Current events of International Importance

• National and General Science

• Geography of India and Bihar

• General Knowledge including Current Affairs

• History of India and salient features of history of Bihar

• Indian Culture

• Major geographical divisions of Bihar and important river system

• Major changes in Bihar’s economy during post-independence India

• Indian Political System

• Indian’s state system and economics system

2. Hindi Language –

3. English Language –

The law papers are more detailed –

• Indian Penal Code,

• Code of Criminal Procedure

• Other Laws

each of these carries 150 marks

Every paper will be of 3 hours duration, and together the exam adds up to 900 marks. Candidates who clear the Mains will then move on to the interview stage.
