ABOUT Common Law Admission Test (CLAT-UG):[5 year Integrated Course]

Common Law Admission Test or CLAT for the Undergraduate or 10+2 passed students is a national level entrance test/exam for the most prestigious National Law Universities (NLUs) across the country. This premier entrance test for NLUs started in 2008 and has been continuing since. CLAT is organized by a Consortium of National Law Universities and every year, any one of the NLU amongst the consortium conducts the entrance test.

These National Law Universities at the UG level provides the 5 year integrated law course in the form of B.A. LLB., B.B.A. LLB., etc for the candidates to choose based on their rank in the CLAT.

CLAT-UG entrance exam is the key to the door that unlocks plethora of opportunities in the legal field and the varied paths on which a law graduate can shape his/her career. Qualification : The candidates in order to apply for CLAT-UG needs to have completed/passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with the following minimum marks:

  • Scheduled Class (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) Candidates: 40% marks or equivalent percentile.
  • General/ Other Backward Class (OBC)/ Specially abled persons categories: 45% marks or equivalent percentile.

Age : There is no specified upper age limit for applying for CLAT-UG Exam.

CURRICULAM

We at Pahuja Law Academy (PLA) provide you with the essentially elaborative course structure for CLAT-UG Coaching and teach the following subjects as per the UPDATED PATTERN from 2020. CLAT-UG is conducted in offline method and the number of objective-type MCQs are 150 and plus one (+1) for every correct answer and minus point twenty five (-.25) for every incorrect answers. No mark will be awarded or deducted for a question which is left unanswered.

The prescribed subjects for CLAT-UG are as follows:- 1. ENGLISH LANGUAGE – [No. of Questions: 28-32 (20% of the paper)]

It comprises of Passages of about 450 words each and 5 Questions each. These passages will be derived from contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction writing. The candidates will be tested for the following type of questions in this section:

  • Reading and comprehending the main point discussed in the given passage, as well as any arguments and viewpoints discussed or set out in the given passage;
  • Drawing if inferences and conclusions based on the given passage;
  • Summarising the given passage;
  • Comparing and contrasting the different arguments or viewpoints set out in the given passage; and
  • Understanding the meaning of various words and phrases used in the passage.
2. CURRENT AFFAIRS INCLUDING GENERAL KNOWLEDGE – [No. of Questions: 35-39 (25% of the paper)]

The Current Affairs and GK Section comprise of Passages of about 450 words each and 5 Questions each. These passages are culled out from daily news, journalistic sources and other non-fiction writings. The main focus of this Section is on:

  • The Contemporary Events of significance from India and also the World;
  • Arts and Culture;
  • International Affairs; and
  • Historical Events which are having continuing significance.
3. LEGAL REASONING –[No. of Questions: 35-39 (25% of the paper)]

The Legal Reasoning Section comprises of Passages of about 450 words each and 5 Questions each. The passages may relate to fact situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions or moral philosophical enquiries. The candidates will have to do the following under this section:

  • Identifying and inferring the rules and principles set out in the given passage;
  • Applying such rules and principles to various factual situations; and
  • Understanding how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various factual situations.
4. LOGICAL REASONING –[No. of Questions: 28-32 (20% of the paper)]

The Logical Reasoning Section comprises a series of short passages of about 300 words each. Each passage will be followed by one or more questions that will require the candidates to do the following:

  • Recognizing an argument, its premises and conclusions;
  • Reading and identifying the arguments set out in the passage;
  • Critically analyzing the patterns of reasoning, and assessment of how the conclusions may depend on particular premise or evidence;
  • Inferring what follows from the passage and application of these inferences to new situations;
  • Drawing relationships and analogies, identifying contradictions and equivalence, and assess the effectiveness of arguments.
5. QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE - [No. of Questions: 13-17 (10% of the paper)]

The Quantitative Aptitude section includes short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial or diagrammatic representations of numerical information, followed by a series of questions. The candidates will have to derive information from such passages, graphs, or other representations, and apply mathematical operations on such information.

The questions will require the candidates to:
  • Derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information set out in such passages, graphs, or other representations; and
  • Apply various 10th class level mathematical operations on such information, including from areas such as ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.
