Section 56 : Health and Safety of arrested person

Section 56 obligates police in critical respects related to health and safety aspects during detention. Such a provision protects an arrested person and ensures the enjoyment of rights from the time of their arrest.
It requires the person or authority holding a person arrested to take reasonable care of his health and well-being. That is, ensure that he is provided with all medical treatment needed and not be allowed to suffer any form of harm during custody.
The term "reasonable care" suggests that custodians are to do whatever may reasonably be done to ensure the arrested person is kept safe. This includes taking specific measures to meet particular medical needs, ensuring proper nutritional intake, and monitoring psychiatric status as necessary.
