New Income Tax Rules, 2026 Notified to Boost Transparency and Compliance
• The Government has notified the Income Tax Rules, 2026, which will be effective from 1 April.
• These rules aim to improve tax compliance and transparency, while also simplifying procedures.
• A major reform has been introduced by reducing the number of rules and strengthening disclosure requirements.
• The new framework has been drafted to implement provisions of the Income-tax Act, 2025, replacing outdated procedures.
• Companies have been directed to maintain share registers, conduct general meetings, and distribute dividends only within India.
• Stock exchanges must now keep audit trails for 7 years, ensure records cannot be deleted, and file monthly reports on altered transactions.
• Tax authorities have been given enhanced powers in cross-border taxation, including estimating non-resident income using global profit ratios or other reasonable methods.
• Specific rules have been framed for cases like debenture conversions, cross-border restructuring, income disclosure schemes, and also a formal system for zero-coupon bonds with approval, rating, and fund-utilisation conditions.

Jose Joseph Kattoor Appointed Chairman of South Indian Bank
• Jose Joseph Kattoor has been appointed as the Non-Executive Part-Time Chairman of South Indian Bank.
• His tenure will be for three years, effective from 23 March 2026.
• The appointment was made after receiving approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
• He has taken over from V J Kurian, who recently completed his term as Chairman.
• Kattoor has been associated with the bank as an Independent Director since 18 July 2024.
• In this role, he will coordinate with the Board and senior leadership to improve governance and management standards.
• He has over 30 years of experience in the RBI, serving from 1991 to 2023.
• During his RBI career, he worked as Executive Director and managed important divisions like Enforcement and Corporate Strategy.

• World Tuberculosis Day is observed every year on 24 March.
• The day aims to spread awareness about the serious health, social, and economic impact of tuberculosis (TB).

• The observance marks the discovery of the TB bacteria by Dr. Robert Koch in 1882.
• This discovery became a turning point in understanding and fighting tuberculosis worldwide.

MY Bharat Nationwide Padyatra on Shaheed Diwas (23 March 2026)
• Mera Yuva (MY)-Bharat will organise a nationwide padyatra on 23 March 2026 to mark Shaheed Diwas.
• The march will be held under the theme “MY Bharat, My Responsibility.”
• It will honour the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar.
• The initiative aims to develop a spirit of responsible citizenship among India’s youth.
• It also seeks to direct youth energy towards positive nation-building activities.
• Padyatras will be conducted across all 763 districts of the country.
• A major public event is planned in Faridabad, with over 10,000 youth participants expected.
• MY Bharat, launched on 31 October 2023, is a Government of India platform promoting technology-driven youth development and youth-led progress.

Uttar Pradesh Launches Nivesh Mitra 3.0 to Boost Investor Facilitation
• Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the ‘Nivesh Mitra 3.0’ digital platform on 24 March to improve the investor experience.
• The initiative aims to make the investment process simpler, faster, and more transparent in the state.
• Along with this, the CM also introduced the ‘UP Private Business Park Development Scheme-2025’.
• He also unveiled the ‘Plug-and-Play Industrial Sheds Scheme’ to support industrial expansion.
• During the event, more than 85 Letters of Comfort (LoCs), Eligibility Certificates (ECs) and subsidies worth ₹2,781 crore were distributed.
• An AI-powered chatbot has been added to provide instant guidance and support to investors.
• The platform now offers real-time SMS updates to track application progress at every stage.
• A Dynamic Combined Application Form has been introduced for multi-department approvals through one interface, supported by reforms like 25% cut in procedures, 15% reduction in documentation, and 20% reduction in other process steps.

• Kipa Mero (Arunachal Pradesh) won gold in the Women’s Javelin Throw (F12 category) at the 24th National Para Athletics Championship 2026.
• The championship was held in Bhubaneswar.

• Techi Meta secured the silver medal in the Women’s 400m (T13 category).
• In squash, Anahat Singh successfully defended her Women’s Singles title at the Indian Open in Mumbai.

World Water Day Conclave 2026 Held in New Delhi
• The Ministry of Jal Shakti organised the World Water Day Conclave 2026 in New Delhi on 23 March.
• Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil attended and participated in the inaugural session.
• The conclave was conducted on the theme “Industry for Water.”
• It served as a national platform to promote innovation, dialogue, and cooperation for sustainable water management.
• Policymakers, industry leaders, academicians, startups, MSMEs, and young innovators joined to develop scalable and technology-based solutions.
• The event witnessed participation of more than 700 delegates from different sectors.
• Winners of the Jal Shakti Hackathon were honoured for their impactful innovations in the water sector.
• The conclave was held in connection with World Water Day (22 March), observed since 1993 as declared by the UNGA, and the World Water Day 2026 theme was “Water and Gender” with the slogan “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows.”

• India hosted the 12th Steering Committee Meeting of the GlobE Network in New Delhi.
• The discussions highlighted asset recovery as a major indicator of enforcement success under the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
• The importance of enforcement agencies in tracking, confiscating, and returning proceeds of crime was strongly emphasized.
• It was noted that modern corruption is becoming more cross-border and technology-based, demanding stronger global coordination.
• The CBI was highlighted as India’s key agency for anti-corruption investigation and prosecution.
• The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is responsible for cases involving money laundering and recovery of illegal assets.
• The ED has reportedly restituted assets worth around 5.6 billion US dollars in recent years.
