• The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has formed a three-member judicial committee to investigate the stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on 29 January 2025.
• The stampede occurred at the Sangam area during the Mauni Amavasya (new moon day) when millions gathered to take a holy dip. The tragedy resulted in 30 deaths and 60 injuries.
• The inquiry committee is headed by retired Allahabad High Court judge Justice Harsh Kumar, with former DGP V K Gupta and retired IAS officer D K Singh as members.
• The committee’s role is to examine the causes and circumstances of the stampede and provide recommendations to prevent future incidents.
• The report must be submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government within one month.
• The 2025 Kumbh Mela will run from 13 January to 26 February.
• The next Kumbh Mela will be held in Nashik in 2027, followed by Ujjain in 2028, and an Ardh Kumbh in Prayagraj in 2030.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Government has said that India will soon bring its own indigenous AI model.
• The government announced that India will soon introduce its own indigenous AI model.
• With a 40% government subsidy, the model’s usage cost will be under ₹100 per hour.
• In contrast, global AI models charge between $2.50 and $3 per hour.
• The Indian AI model will support 18 citizen-focused applications in areas like learning disabilities, climate change, and agriculture.
• Designed to cater to the Indian context, it will integrate Indian languages for better accessibility.
• Scientists, researchers, developers, and programmers are actively working on multiple core models for this system.
• The AI model is expected to be ready within six months.
• Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that DeepSeek’s Open Source Code will soon be available on Indian servers after security validation.
