Justice Sanjay Gowda Takes Oath as Gujarat High Court Judge

• On June 9, Justice N.S. Sanjay Gowda was sworn in as a judge of the Gujarat High Court.

• The oath was administered by Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal at the Gujarat High Court.

• Prior to this, Justice Gowda served as a judge in the Karnataka High Court.

• He began his legal practice in 1989, bringing over three decades of experience to the bench.

• Justice Gowda entered the judiciary in 2019 as an Additional Judge of Karnataka High Court.

• He was elevated to the position of permanent judge in 2021.

• His transfer to Gujarat was part of a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium in April 2025.

• The Collegium had suggested the transfer of seven sitting judges, including four from Karnataka.

India-England Test Series Renamed as Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy

• The iconic India-England Test series will now be known as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, honouring legends Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson.

• The BCCI and ECB jointly announced the new name ahead of the teams' upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

• The trophy unveiling is scheduled for June 11 at Lord’s, during the WTC final between Australia and South Africa.

• Tendulkar and Anderson will jointly reveal the trophy, symbolizing their contributions to Test cricket.

• The five-match Test series between India and England will kick off on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

• Anderson, who retired in July 2024 after 188 Tests and over 700 wickets, remains the most capped fast bowler in history.

• Tendulkar, with a record 200 Test matches and 15,921 runs, retired in 2013 after a stellar 24-year international career.

• The new title replaces both the Pataudi Trophy (in England) and Anthony de Mello Trophy (in India), unifying the series under a single legacy.

• In the men’s doubles, the team of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos defeated the British pair Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski.

• Italian duo Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini secured the women’s doubles crown, beating Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic.

• Sara Errani also triumphed in mixed doubles alongside Andrea Vavassori, besting Taylor Townsend and Evan King.

• Alcaraz’s dominant form at Roland Garros cements his rising legacy in modern tennis.

• The tournament once again showcased top-tier tennis talent, with thrilling finals across all categories.

PM Modi Addresses Global Meet on Coastal Resilience at ICDRI 2025

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2025, hosted in Europe for the first time, with France and President Emmanuel Macron extending strong support.

• The conference focused on “Shaping a Resilient Future for Coastal Regions,” highlighting climate challenges faced by island nations and coastal communities.

• PM Modi cited recent global calamities—Cyclone Remal, Hurricane Beryl, and Typhoon Yagi—as reminders of the urgent need for resilient infrastructure.

• Drawing on India’s own experiences, he discussed recovery from major disasters like the 1999 Odisha super-cyclone and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

• India’s tsunami early warning system, now serving 29 countries, was highlighted as a regional contribution to disaster preparedness.

• The Prime Minister laid out five global priorities: integrating resilience in education, building a digital knowledge hub, financing support for developing countries, reclassifying Small Island Developing States, and strengthening early warning systems.

• He emphasized the need for a trained, resilient-ready workforce and called for deeper international cooperation in skill development.

• PM Modi also proposed a global platform to exchange recovery strategies and best practices for future disaster response.

• Football icon David Beckham is expected to be knighted in King Charles III’s upcoming birthday honours list.

• Originally nominated in 2011, Beckham earned global acclaim with 115 caps for England and an illustrious club career.

• He played for elite teams including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.

• Upon receiving the honour, he will be known as “Sir David Beckham”, while his wife Victoria would be titled “Lady Beckham”.
