Hul Diwas: Remembering the Santhal Rebellion
• Hul Diwas is observed on 30th June to honor the bravery and sacrifices of the Santhal community.
• President Droupadi Murmu paid homage to tribal freedom fighters on this historic day.
• The Santhal uprising began on 30 June 1855, led by Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu, with key roles played by Phulo and Jhano.
• It was a revolt against the British East India Company, oppressive landlords, and moneylenders.
• The movement was fueled by a demand for justice, dignity, and liberation from exploitation.
• Thousands of tribal youth joined the resistance, showing unmatched courage and unity.
• Though crushed, the rebellion became a turning point in India’s anti-colonial struggle.
• The uprising led to key legal reforms like the Santhal Parganas Tenancy Act (1876) and the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act (1908) to protect tribal rights.

Radhanath Swami Receives Recognition in New York for His Spiritual Contributions
• Radhanath Swami, a prominent figure in ISKCON, was honoured during an interfaith gathering held in New York City.
• The award was handed over by Deputy Commissioner Dilip Chauhan, representing Mayor Eric Adams.
• The event took place at The Bhakti Center, ISKCON’s spiritual and cultural hub in Manhattan’s East Village.
• Titled “Foundation of Future,” the event brought together Hindu spiritual leaders and civic dignitaries.
• Swami was praised for his dedication to promoting interfaith dialogue and encouraging cultural harmony.
• Born in 1950 in Chicago as Richard Slavin, his quest for spiritual truth began during the Civil Rights Movement.
• His journey led him to India, where he became a devoted disciple of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON in 1966.
• He later established the Govardhan Eco Village in India, focused on sustainability, spirituality, and community welfare.

Ravi Agrawal Gets One-Year Extension as CBDT Chief
• The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has cleared the re-appointment of Ravi Agrawal as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
• His contract-based tenure will run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, or until further instructions.
• Agrawal belongs to the 1988 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and comes from the Income Tax cadre.
• Prior to his current role, he served as CBDT Member (Administration) beginning in July 2023.
• He took over from Nitin Gupta, a 1986-batch IRS officer, who served as CBDT Chairman before him.
• The CBDT is India's apex authority for formulating policies related to direct taxation.
• It functions under the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Revenue, managing Income Tax and Corporate Tax laws.
• The board was formed on January 1, 1964, and operates as a statutory body under Indian law.

Uttar Pradesh Approves New Rhino Conservation Zones in Dudhwa National Park
• The UP government has approved the creation of two new Rhino Rehabilitation Areas (RRA-3 & RRA-4) in Dudhwa National Park, Lakhimpur.
• This move is part of a long-term wildlife conservation project led by the Forest and Wildlife Department.
• A total budget of ₹1.5 crore has been sanctioned for the development of these zones.
• The new RRAs will support semi-wild rhino monitoring, similar to existing RRA-1 and RRA-2 models.
• Around ₹1.27 crore will go toward habitat upkeep, including water bodies and vegetation.
• Allocations also include ₹7 lakh each for wildlife medicines and monitoring equipment.
• Funds include ₹4.8 lakh for major construction and ₹3 lakh for minor civil work within the park.
• In a separate decision, the UP Cabinet (June 3, 2025) approved 20% horizontal reservation in police recruitment for former Agniveers.
