Improvement Notice Mechanism Introduced Under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009
• The Department of Consumer Affairs introduced the Improvement Notice mechanism under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 on 29 June 2026.
• The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 regulates weights, measures, packaged commodities, and measuring instruments to ensure fair trade and consumer protection.
• The mechanism applies to first-time procedural or regulatory non-compliance by manufacturers, importers, packers, dealers, repairers, traders, and MSMEs.
• A Legal Metrology Officer may issue an Improvement Notice, specifying the deficiency and allowing a reasonable period for rectification.
• If the entity corrects the lapse within the prescribed time, penal proceedings may be avoided under the new framework.
• The reform has been introduced through the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026, aiming to reduce procedural burden and promote ease of compliance.
• The mechanism does not apply to fraud, tampering, repeated violations, or deliberate acts that harm consumer interests, which remain punishable under the Act.
• The initiative encourages voluntary compliance while maintaining strict enforcement against serious or repeated violations, strengthening consumer confidence and fair market practices.
DIKSHA: India’s ‘One Nation, One Digital Platform’ for School Education
• DIKSHA (Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing) is India’s national digital platform for school education, launched in 2017 and managed by NCERT with support from CIET.
• As of 28 June 2026, the Central Government designated DIKSHA as “One Nation, One Digital Platform” for school education.
• The platform provides curriculum-aligned digital learning resources from the Foundational Stage to Class XII and follows a federated model, enabling States and Union Territories to customise content.
• DIKSHA offers educational material in 36 Indian languages and 7 foreign languages, making learning accessible to diverse learners across the country.
• Its digital resources include QR-coded Energised Textbooks, educational videos, 2D & 3D animations, augmented reality (AR) content, virtual labs, and Indian Sign Language videos.
• The platform supports teacher professional development through programmes such as NISHTHA, offering self-paced online training and certification modules.
• DIKSHA promotes inclusive education with DAISY-formatted content, text-to-speech features, and sign language resources for learners with disabilities.
• The platform supports both online and offline learning, allowing content downloads and preloading on smart classroom boards, ensuring access even in areas with limited internet connectivity.

India–Saudi Arabia Sign MoU on Water Resource Management
• India and Saudi Arabia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 29 June 2026 to strengthen cooperation in water resource management.
• The agreement was signed during the inaugural Saudi Water Week held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
• The MoU was signed by Dr. Suhel Khan, India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen AlFadley, Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
• Fahad Suri, Consul General of India in Jeddah, attended the signing ceremony.
• The agreement promotes collaboration in water resources planning, sustainable water management, irrigation systems, capacity building, and exchange of technical expertise.
• The partnership aims to improve efficient water use and strengthen long-term water security, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions.
• Saudi Water Week serves as a platform for discussions on water conservation, innovation, and sustainable management practices.
• The Indian Embassy in Riyadh described the MoU as an important step in deepening the India–Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership through enhanced cooperation in the water sector.
RIMPAC 2026: World’s Largest Multinational Maritime Exercise
• RIMPAC 2026 (Rim of the Pacific Exercise) commenced on 24 June 2026 and will continue until 31 July 2026 in and around the Hawaiian Islands.
• Organised biennially by the United States Pacific Fleet, RIMPAC is the world’s largest international maritime exercise, integrating naval, air, and land forces.
• The 30th edition involves 30 participating nations, around 30 surface ships, 5 submarines, 15 national land forces, over 206 aircraft, and more than 30,000 personnel.
• The Commander of the U.S. 3rd Fleet leads the Combined Task Force, with Chile as Deputy Commander, Japan as Vice Commander, South Korea heading the maritime component, and Canada leading the air component.
• The exercise includes amphibious operations, anti-submarine warfare, air defence, live-fire drills, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), and military medicine.
• Other training activities cover gunnery and missile proficiency, counter-piracy, mine clearance, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), and diving & salvage operations.
• A live-fire exercise involving U.S. Marines and Mexican Marines was conducted at Marine Corps Base Hawaii on 27 June 2026, while an Open Ship Day was organised at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
• Germany and France did not deploy ships or contingents for RIMPAC 2026, reflecting the varying participation pattern seen across different editions of the exercise.

Haryana–Rajasthan Sign MoU for Yamuna Water Sharing
• Haryana and Rajasthan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on 29 June 2026 to implement the 1994 Upper Yamuna River Board Agreement.
• The Upper Yamuna River Board Agreement, signed on 12 May 1994, provides for the allocation of Yamuna River surface waters among the basin states.
• Rajasthan's allocated Yamuna water will be supplied through the Yamuna Water Project, featuring a 295.5-km underground pipeline.
• The Yamuna Water Project has an estimated cost of ₹34,102 crore and aims to ensure efficient inter-state water transfer with minimal transmission losses.
• A consensus on the water-sharing arrangement was reached during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi on 23 June 2026.
• The 9th meeting of the Upper Yamuna Review Committee (November 2025) had already reviewed and recorded progress on Rajasthan’s water transfer project.
• The Upper Yamuna River Board manages water allocation among basin states, while the Yamuna is a major tributary of the Ganga River system in northern India.
• The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in New Delhi.

PM Narendra Modi Receives Seychelles’ ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Award
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” award by Seychelles during his state visit on 28 June 2026.
• The “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” is Seychelles’ highest environmental honour and a special Presidential Distinction, conferred for the first time.
• The award recognises leadership in environmental conservation, sustainable development, Blue Economy initiatives, climate action, and support for developing countries.
• The Blue Economy promotes the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, livelihoods, and the conservation of marine ecosystems.
• Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, is an important maritime partner of India in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
• India and Seychelles cooperate in areas such as maritime security, capacity building, environmental protection, ocean governance, and sustainable development.
• The honour highlights the growing India–Seychelles partnership in advancing marine conservation and climate resilience.
• The award was presented by President Patrick Herminie during the 2026 state visit, marking a milestone in bilateral environmental cooperation.

Ayushman Sarathi PM-JAY Chatbot Launched
• Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda launched the Ayushman Sarathi PM-JAY Chatbot in New Delhi on 29 June 2026.
• Developed by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it is a WhatsApp-based chatbot for Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY services.
• Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) provides cashless and paperless healthcare at empanelled hospitals for eligible beneficiaries.
• Beneficiaries can access the chatbot 24×7 by sending "Hi" to +91 72908 23838 on WhatsApp or by scanning the official QR code.
• Key services include eligibility verification, Ayushman Card application and download, eKYC, Aadhaar linking, and card lock/unlock facilities.
• Users can also check wallet balance, view treatment history, locate nearby empanelled hospitals, and register, track, or withdraw grievances through the chatbot.
• The National Health Authority is the implementing agency for AB PM-JAY and several of India's digital health initiatives.
• The chatbot was launched alongside Aarogya Setu 2.0 and supports secure API-based integration with PM-JAY systems for real-time digital health service delivery.
SUMAN Roadmap 2030 for Maternal Health Launched
• Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda launched the SUMAN Roadmap 2030 for Maternal Health on 29 June 2026 at the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi.
• The roadmap is a strategic framework for maternal and newborn healthcare, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
• Its key targets include zero maternal deaths, zero infant deaths, universal antenatal care, institutional deliveries, full immunisation, and reducing the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) below 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030.
• The framework follows a life-cycle approach, covering pre-pregnancy, antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, along with a four-stage system for identifying and managing high-risk pregnancies.
• Implementation will focus on 130 districts across 13 high-focus States, including Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.
• The roadmap provides bi-weekly ASHA home visits during the 8th and 9th months of pregnancy and financial assistance for designated caregivers during the postnatal period.
• Major health-system initiatives include Birth Waiting Homes, Maternal & Child Health Wings, Obstetric HDUs, ICUs, AI-enabled labour rooms, Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments, and monitoring through the JANANI portal.
• Community participation is strengthened through SUMAN Panchayats and Mothers' Picnic initiatives, promoting local accountability and improved maternal and newborn health practices.
Aarogya Setu 2.0 and Digital Health Initiatives Launched
• Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda launched Aarogya Setu 2.0 and other digital health initiatives on 29 June 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
• Aarogya Setu 2.0 has been transformed from a COVID-19 contact-tracing app into a Personal Health Record (PHR) application under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
• The app enables users to create and manage an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), securely share health records with consent, and use the Scan & Share facility for faster registration at healthcare centres.
• ABDM is India's national digital health ecosystem that promotes interoperable electronic health records and unique digital health identifiers.
• By June 2026, the ABDM ecosystem had generated over 90 crore ABHAs, included more than 4.8 lakh registered health facilities, and over 9.5 lakh registered doctors.
• The National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) was launched to standardise and speed up health insurance claim processing between hospitals and insurers.
• Other initiatives introduced included the Drug Registry, Common LOINC Codes for India (CLCI), and the Bharat Health Terminology Service (BHTS) to strengthen healthcare data standardisation.
• Health Information Provider (HIP) registration became mandatory in 2026 for NABH-accredited and State-empanelled healthcare facilities, strengthening the nationwide digital health network.

Indian Army Duo Wins India’s First Gold at World Rowing Cup
• India won its first-ever gold medal at the World Rowing Cup on 27 June 2026 during Stage 3 held in Lucerne, Switzerland.
• Havildars Lakshay and Ujjwal Kumar Singh secured the historic gold in the Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls (LM2x) event.
• The Indian pair completed the race in 6:26.09, narrowly defeating Hong Kong (6:27.14) and the Netherlands (6:27.36) in a photo finish.
• The World Rowing Cup is an annual international competition organised by World Rowing, featuring multiple stages across different countries.
• In LM2x (Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls), two rowers compete using two oars each, with prescribed body-weight limits under World Rowing rules.
• Both gold medallists are serving soldiers of the Indian Army and train at the Army Rowing Node, Pune, a premier military rowing centre.
• India’s 18-member contingent included 17 athletes from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Navy.
• The Indian team missed World Rowing Cup II due to visa delays but reached Switzerland after receiving visas only five days before the event, making the gold medal an even more remarkable achievement.
India Wins Five Medals at Global Skills Challenge Australia 2026
• India secured five medals at the Global Skills Challenge Australia 2026, held from 23–29 June 2026, winning 3 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
• The event served as a preparatory competition for the 48th WorldSkills Competition, scheduled to be held in Shanghai, China, later in 2026.
• Gold medal winners were Pavan Bhadravati Suresha (Karnataka) in Additive Manufacturing, Mausam Kumar Giri (Bihar) in Cloud Computing, and Vishnupriya Sunil (Delhi) in Health and Social Care.
• Harsh Ramesh Pawar (Maharashtra) won the silver medal in 3D Digital Game Art, while Muskan (Haryana) earned the bronze medal in Painting and Decorating.
• The Global Skills Challenge is an international vocational skills competition under the WorldSkills movement, featuring participants from 16 member nations.
• Around 600 participants, including competitors, experts, translators, and officials, took part in the 2026 edition held in Australia.
• WorldSkills promotes excellence in vocational education through competitions covering trade, technical, and technology-based occupations.
• Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, congratulated Team India on its performance after the event concluded on 29 June 2026.
